Imagine you are sitting on the floor or you are lying down playing with your (grand)kids, tying your shoes, or maybe stretching after a walk. Now, think about how easily you can get back up. That simple movement - getting up from the ground - is actually a big deal when it comes to staying strong and independent as we age!
Ground - to -stand exercises help you keep your muscles , balance, and flexibility in check. The stronger and more stable you are, the less you will struggle with everyday tasks or, worse, experience falls. In fact, studies show that people who can get up from the floor with little or no help tend to stay healthier for longer!
So, what can you do? You can try practicing simple movements like squats - getting up en down from a chair multiple times - or lunges - picking things up from the ground in a split stance .. to keep your body strong.
Or you can try to get up from the ground like this for example:
Lie down on your belly:
Step 1: push yourself back up into a plank position
Step 2: bring one foot forward
Step 3: try not to use your hands in the next step
Step 4: get up and stand tall (even with a balance on one leg)
Step 5: reverse every step to repeat the whole exercise again
Repeat this 5 to 10 times.
Small improvements can make a huge difference. The goal here isn’t perfection - it’s keeping yourself moving, confident, and ready for whatever life throws your way!
